When you contact the Practice, the Receptionist will ask you to give a very brief idea about what problem you require our help with. They will then, using information about services in the practice, other NHS providers and the wider care and support sector, direct you to the most appropriate service.
The GPs in the Practice are fully supportive of these changes and recognise the important role that our receptionists already undertake. You may have noticed that the practice telephone message has been changed recently to support this.
These role changes are expected to be embraced by all practices in the Cannock Chase Network and it is hoped that in the future this change in role will enable GPs in the practices to spend more time on patients with complex needs.
Of course, we know that the majority of patients may still need to be seen by a GP. However, our Receptionists will need to evaluate this when booking appointments – so please do not be offended by their questions – they are here to help you achieve better and quicker outcomes.
